Adverse Effects
Endocrine:
Infrequently, decreased and increased libido, weight gain, weight loss, menstrual irregularity/breakthrough bleeding. Rarely, delayed ejaculation, impotence, galactorrhea, amenorrhea, t
hyroid abnormality.
Allergic or Toxic:
Skin rash, sore throat. Infrequently, edema/facial edema, pruritus, chills/fever. Rarely, photophobia, erythema, flu-like symptoms.
Clinical Laborato
ry:
Infrequently, increases in liver enzymes. Rarely, eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia.

Other Medicines
In another study in normal volunteers, concomitant administration of buspirone and haloperidol resulted in increased serum haloperidol concentrations. The clinical significance of this finding is not
clear.

Why is this drug prescribed?
Buspirone Hydrochloride is indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety. It is an agent that is not chemically or pharmacologically related to
the benzodiazepines (e.g. Valium, Xanax) barbituates, or other sedative/anti-anxiety drugs.

Overdosage
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of BuSpar, seek medical attention immediately.
The symptoms of BuSpar overdose may include:

zziness, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting, severe stomach upset, unusually small pupils.

What side effects may occur?
More common side effects may include:
- Dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, light-headedness, nausea, nervousness, unusual excitement
Less common or rare side effects may include:
- Anger/hostility, blurred vision, bone aches/pain, confusion, constipation, decreased concentration, depression, diarrhea, fast, fluttery heartbeat, incoordination, muscle pain/aches, numbness,
pain or weakness in hands or feet, rapid heartbeat, rash, restlessness, stomach and abdominal upset, sweating/clamminess, tingling or pins and needles, tremor, urinary incontinence, vomiting, weakness

DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE :
Although BuSpar does not intensify the effects of alcohol, it is best to avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
If BuSpar is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either can be
increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining BuSpar with the following:
- The blood-thinning drug Coumadin
- Haloperidol (Hal
dol)
- MAO inhibitors (antidepressant drugs such as Nardil and Parnate)
- Trazodone (Desyrel)
