Special warnings about this medication
It is important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits. This will allow your doctor to check for any unwanted effects.
If your symptoms do not improve within a few weeks (or m
onths for some infections), or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
These medicines should notbe taken with astemizole (e.g., Hismanal), cisapride (e.g., Propulsid),dofetilide (e.g.,
Tikosyn) or terfenadine (e.g., Seldane). Doing so may increase the risk of serious side effects affecting the heart.

Side Effects
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:
- Dark or amber urine; fever and sore throat; loss of appetite; pale stools; reddening, blistering, peeling,
or loosening of skin and mucous membranes; stomach pain; unusual bleeding or bruising; unusual tiredness or weakness; yellow eyes or skin
- Fever and chills; skin rash or itching

Other Medicines
When you are taking Diflucan, it is especially important that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following:
- Etretinate (e.g., Tegison) or
- Gold salts (me
dicine for arthritis) or
- Hydroxychloroquine (e.g., Plaquenil) or
- Mercaptopurine (e.g., Purinethol) or
- Methotrexate (e.g., Mexate) or
- Methyldopa (e.g., Aldomet) or
- Na
ltrexone (e.g., Trexan) (with long-term, high-dose use) or
- Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) containing estrogen or
- Other anti-infectives by mouth or by injection (medicine for i
nfection) or
- Plicamycin (e.g., Mithracin) or

What is this medicine
Diflucan is used to treat fungal infections called candidiasis (also known as thrush or yeast infections). These include vaginal infections, throat infections, and fungal infections elsewhere in the b
ody, such as infections of the urinary tract, peritonitis (inflammation of the lining of the abdomen), and pneumonia. Diflucan is also prescribed to guard against candidiasis in some people receiving
bone marrow transplants, and is used to treat meningitis (brain or spinal cord inflammation) caused by another type of fungus.
In addition, Diflucan is now being prescribed for fungal infect
ions in kidney and liver transplant patients, and fungal infections in patients with AIDS.

What special precautions should I follow?
Strong allergic reactions to Diflucan, although rare, have been reported. Symptoms may include hives, itching, swelling, sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing or swallowing, diarrhea, or
abdominal pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, notify your doctor immediately.

Overdosage
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical treatment immediately.
