Precautions
Neuroendocrine Effects:
Single doses of 30 mg or higher of buspirone resulted in significantly elevated plasma prolactin and growth hormone concentrations in normal volunteers. No effect was seen
at lower doses. In another study, no such increases were observed after buspirone was administered in divided doses (10 mg t.i.d.) for 28 days.

Proper Use of This Medicine
Take BuSpar exactly as prescribed. Do not be discouraged if you feel no immediate effect. The full benefit of this drug may not be seen for 1 to 2 weeks after you start to take it.

DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE :
Although BuSpar does not intensify the effects of alcohol, it is best to avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
If BuSpar is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either can be
increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining BuSpar with the following:
- The blood-thinning drug Coumadin
- Haloperidol (Hal
dol)
- MAO inhibitors (antidepressant drugs such as Nardil and Parnate)
- Trazodone (Desyrel)

Significant Interactions:
In laboratory studies in healthy volunteers, buspirone in doses up to 20 mg did not potentiate the psychomotor impairment produced by relatively modest doses of alcohol. However, decreased contentedne
ss or dysphoria was observed with a combination of alcohol and a 20 mg single dose of buspirone. Since no data are available on concomitant use of higher doses of buspirone and alcohol, it is prudent
to advise patients to avoid alcohol during buspirone therapy.

Tinnitus, muscle aches/pains. Infrequently, redness/itching of eyes, altered taste/smell, roaring sensation in head, malaise, easy bruising, dry skin, arthralgia, blisters, hair los
s. Rarely, acne, thinning of nails, sore eyes, inner ear abnormality, pressure on eyes, nocturia, enuresis, hiccups, voice loss, alcohol abuse.
