What special precautions should I follow?
Claritin may cause some people to become drowsy or less alert than they are normally. Even if taken at bedtime, it may cause some people to feel drowsy or less alert on arising. Some Claritin are more
likely to cause drowsiness than others. Drowsiness is less likely with cetirizine, and rare with desloratadine and loratadine. Make sure you know how you react to the antihistamine you are taking bef
ore you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

What is this medicine
Hydroxyzine is used in the treatment of nervous and emotional conditions to help control anxiety. It can also be used to help control anxiety and produce sleep before surgery.
Some Claritin a
re used in the treatment of chronic urticaria, which is a persistent hive-like rash.
Claritin may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

reparations are available only with your doctor's prescription. Others are available without a prescription. However, your doctor may have special instructions on the proper dose of the medicine for y

How should you take this medication?
When taken at the recommended dose, once a day CLARITIN does not cause drowsiness which is common with all over-the-counter and some prescription antihistamines. (Drowsiness rates vary among products.
) All antihistamines that cause drowsiness must caution users about operating motor vehicles or heavy machinery. CLARITIN, on the other hand, is not required to carry such warnings.

Overdosage
Clumsiness or unsteadiness; convulsions (seizures); drowsiness (severe); dryness of mouth, nose, or throat (severe); feeling faint; flushing or redness of face; hallucinations (seeing, hearing,
or feeling things that are not there); shortness of breath or troubled breathing ; trouble in sleeping

What side effects may occur?
Although side effects from Claritin are not common, they can occur. You may have discolored urine; this effect is harmless. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- headache
- dry mouth, nose, and throat
- drowsiness
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- rapid heartbeat
- diffic
ulty urinating
- vision problems
- dizziness
- muscle weakness

Before Using This Medicine
It is especially important that your health care professional knows if you are taking any of the following:
- Anticholinergics (medicine for abdominal or stomach spasms or cramps)¡XSide effe
ts, such as dryness of mouth, of Claritin or anticholinergics may be more likely to occur
- Central nervous system (CNS) depressants (medicines that cause drowsiness)¡XEffects, such as drowsiness
of CNS depressants or Claritin may be worsened; also, taking maprotiline or tricyclic antidepressants may cause some side effects of either of these medicines, such as dryness of mouth, to become mor
e severe
- Ketoconazole (e.g., Nizoral)¡XUse of these medicines with fexofenadine may cause an increased amount of fexofenadine in the blood.
