What is this Drug
Famvir is most effective if started within the first 48 hours after shingles first appears; treatment should be started at the first sign or symptom of genital herpes. Famvir treatment may not be effe
ctive if it is delayed more than 72 hours after the herpes zoster rash first appears or more than 6 hours after genital herpes becomes evident. Thus, it is important to see your doctor as soon as poss
ible after symptoms appear.

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take a double dose of
this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Precautions Before Using This Medicine
Breast-feedingˇXIt is not known whether famciclovir passes into the breast milk of humans; however, it does pass into the milk of rats. Famciclovir is not recommended during breast-feeding because it
ay cause unwanted effects in nursing babies.

Side Effects
More common side effects may include:
Constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting
Less common side effects may include:
Abdominal pain, back pain,
chills and fever, gas, indigestion, injury, insomnia, irritated sinuses, itching, joint pain, loss of appetite, pain, prickling or burning sensation of the skin, sleepiness, sore throat, upper respir
atory infection
There have been infrequent cases of hallucinations, hives, and rash, and some people---especially older adults---may experience confusion, including delirium and disorientati
on.

Significant Interactions:
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to c
hange your dose or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your health care professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.

Do not take Famvir ( Famciclovir )if you are allergic to penciclovir (Denavir) without first talking to your doctor. ? Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease. You m
