Precautions Before Using This Medicine
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Glaucoma—Rare cases of glaucoma have been reported following use of nasal corticosteroids, including nasal Fl nase
- Herpes simplex (virus) infection of the eye or
- Infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic, or fungal)—Nasal corticosteroids may cover up the signs of these infections
- Injury to the nose (recent) or
- Nose surgery (recent) or
- Sores in the nose—Nasal corticosteroids may prevent proper healing of these conditions
- Tuberculosis (active or history of)—Nasal co icosteroids may cover up the signs of this infection or cause it to start up again

Special warnings about this medication
People taking steroid medications run an increased risk of infections such as chickenpox and measles, and when an infection develops, it's more likely to be serious. If you've never had these diseases and have not been vaccinated against them, avoid anyone who may have them. If by chance you're exposed, contact your doctor immediately.

In rare cases, flonase can also cause a fungal infec tion in the nose and throat. And steroid treatment can also make an existing infection worse. Be sure the doctor is aware of any infections you may have, including TB and viral infections of the eye.

Flonase nasal spray is a remedy for the stuffy, runny, itchy nose that plagues many allergy-sufferers. It can be used either for seasonal attacks of hay fever or for year-round allergic condition s. Flonase is a steroid medication. It works by relieving inflammation within the nasal passages.

The Flovent, Flovent Rotadisk, and Flovent Diskus oral inhalers are used to prevent flare-up s of asthma. (They will not, however, relieve an acute attack.) They sometimes serve as a replacement for the steroid tablets that many people take to control asthma.

What side effects can this medication cause?
Serious side effects from Flonase (fluticasone nasal ) are not likely to occur. Stop using Flonase (fluticasone nasal ) and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (dif ficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). ? Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to use Flonase (fluticasone nasal ) and talk to your doctor if you experience stinging or burning of the nose; sneezing after application; yeast infection in the nose or throat (white patches); bleeding nose; perforated septum (insid e center of nose); increased pressure in the eyes, glaucoma, or tearing of the eyes; headache or lightheadedness; nausea; cough; asthma symptoms; nasal stuffiness or a runny nose

Proper Use of This Medicine
Flonase comes as a solution to inhale through the nose. It is usually inhaled in each nostril once or twice a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or ph armacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Flonase exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Flonase needs to be use d regularly in order to work well. It may take several days for you to get the full benefit of the drug. You should use Flonase every day during the time when you usually have allergy symptoms. Call y our doctor if your symptoms do not get better or get worse.
