Proper Use of This Medicine
Do not use .Imitrex for a headache that is different from your usual migraines . Instead, check with your doctor.
To relieve your migraine as soon as possible, use .Imitrex as soon as the hea
dache pain begins. Even if you get warning signals of a coming migraine (an aura), you should wait until the headache pain starts before using .Imitrex. Using .Imitrex during the aura probably will no
t prevent the headache from occurring. However, even if you do not use .Imitrex until your migraine has been present for several hours, the medicine will still work.
Lying down in a quiet, da
rk room for a while after you use this medicine may help relieve your migraine.

Special warnings about this medication
tell your doctor if you smoke, if you have a strong family history of heart disease, if you are postmenopausal, or if you are a man over 40. Also tell your doctor if you have or have ever had high blo
od pressure; angina (recurring chest pain); a heart attack; diabetes; high cholesterol; obesity; stroke; transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke); ischemic bowel disease; coronary artery disease; seizu
res; or blood vessel, kidney, or liver disease.

Proper Use of This Medicine
Imitrex tablets should be swallowed whole, with liquid. If you have had no relief 2 hours after taking Imitrex Tablets, you may take a second dose of up to 100 milligrams, if your doctor advises it. I
f the headache returns, you may take additional doses at intervals of at least 2 hours. You should not take more than 300 milligrams in one day. If your headache returns after you have had an Imitrex
Injection, you may take single Imitrex Tablets, at intervals of at least 2 hours, up to a maximum of 200 milligrams in a day.
Imitrex nasal spray is packaged in single-dose bottles containin
g either 5 or 20 milligrams of the drug. The usual dosage is a single spray in one nostril.

Side Effects
Although side effects from .Imitrex are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- flushing
- tingling feeling
- feeling
of warmth or heaviness
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- irritation of the nose
- muscle cramps
If you experience any of the
following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- pain or tightness in chest or throat
- sudden or severe stomach pain
- fast heartbeat
- difficulty breathing
- wheezi
ng
- redness, swelling, or itching of the eyelids, face, or lips
- skin rash, lumps, or hives
- change in vision

Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) is a headache medicine. It is believed to work by causing vasoconstriction (narrowing) of arteries and veins that supply blood to your head. Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) tablets and
injections are used to treat vascular headaches such as migraine and cluster headaches. Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) will not prevent migraines or cluster headaches or reduce the number of attacks. It wil
l only treat a migraine or cluster headache that is already occurring. Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
