The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of Nexium. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:

What side effects may occur?
Rare side effects may include:
- itching, leg and body swelling, liver problems, loss of appetite, loss of taste, lymph node problems, menstrual problems, migraine, mouth and throat problems, nau
sea, nervousness, nosebleed, pain, painful joints and muscles, painful urination, prickly or burning sensation, rash, rectal problems, rigidity, ringing in the ears, runny nose, sensitivity to touch,
sinus problems, sleep disorders, sleepiness, sore throat, stomach bleeding, stomach pain, stomach upset, sweating, swelling, taste changes, thirst, tremors, urinary tract infection, vaginitis, vertigo
, vision changes, vomiting, weakness, weight changes, worsening of arthritis, worsening of asthma, worsening of depression

What is this medicine
Nexium is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in your stomach. Nexium is used to treat your esophagus, the area between your throat and st
omach that has become irritated, painful, and swollen from too much acid in your stomach.
It is used to treat heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and other conditions in which the stom
ach makes too much acid. Nexium also is used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking this medication
If Nexium is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Nexium with the foll
owing:
- Diazepam (Valium)
- Digoxin (Lanoxin)
- Iron salts (Ferro-Sequels)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- Warfarin (Coumadin)
There's no problem, however, with com
bining antacids and Nexium; no unwanted interaction will result.

How to Use
If you are taking Nexium for your esophagus and other conditions in which the stomach makes too much acid, your symptoms should improve within 4 to 8 weeks. If your symptoms continue, or if they worse
n, call your doctor. Your doctor may continue treatment for another 4 to 8 weeks.
If you are taking Nexium for your ulcer, your symptoms should improve within 10 days. If ulcer symptoms do no
t improve, or if they worsen, call your doctor.
Do not stop taking Nexium without talking to your doctor.

Overdosage
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. There have been some reports of Nexium overdoses. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

- Blurred vision, confusion, drowsiness, dry mouth, flushing, headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, sweating
