What Is It
Prilosec is prescribed for the short-term treatment (4 to 8 weeks) of stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer (near the exit from the stomach), and erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), and for t he treatment of heartburn and other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (backflow of acid stomach contents into the canal leading to the stomach). - tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox), ampicillin (Omnipen, Polyc illin, Totacillin), cisapride (Propulsid), clarithromycin (Biaxin), diazepam (Valium), erythromycin (E.E.S., E-Mycin, Erythrocin), iron, ketoconazole (Nizoral), phenytoin (Dilantin), pimozide (Orap), terfenadine (Seldane), warfarin (Coumadin), and vitamins.

Prilosec comes as an extended-release (long-acting) capsule. It usually is taken once a day, before a meal.
