What is this medicine
Prilosec is prescribed for the short-term treatment (4 to 8 weeks) of stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer (near the exit from the stomach), and erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), and for t
he treatment of heartburn and other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (backflow of acid stomach contents into the canal leading to the stomach). It is also used to maintain healing of erosiv
e esophagitis and for the long-term treatment of conditions in which too much stomach acid is secreted, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas (benign tumors), and systemic
mastocytosis (cancerous cells).

How to Use
Take Prilosec capsules immediately before a meal, preferably in the morning. Prilosec tablets may be taken with food or on an empty stomach. It may take several days before this medicine begi
ns to relieve stomach pain. To help relieve this pain, antacids may be taken with Prilosec, unless your doctor has told you not to use them. Swallow the capsule and tablet forms of Prilosec w
hole. Do not open the capsule. Do not crush, break, or chew the capsule or the tablet. Take this medicine for the full time of treatment, even if you begin to feel better. Also, keep your app
ointments with your doctor for check-ups so that your doctor will be better able to tell you when to stop taking this medicine.

Drug Interactions
If Prilosec is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Prilosec with the
following: - Ampicillin-containing drugs such as Unasyn - Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral) - Diazepam (Valium) - Disulfiram (Antabuse) - Iron - Ketoconazole (Nizora
l) - Phenytoin (Dilantin) - Warfarin (Coumadin)
