Dry mouth and sleeplessness

How to Use
If you take several doses per day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. However, if it is almost time for the next dose , skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.

If you take Zyban once a day at bedtime and do not remember to take it until the next morning, skip the missed dose. Do not t ake a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Other Medicines
When you are taking Zyban, it is especially important that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following:

- Alcohol or
- Antipsychotics (medicine for mental illness) or
- Corticosteriods(cortisone-like medicine) or
- Fluoxetine (e.g., Prozac) or
- Lithium (e.g., Lithane) or
- Maprotiline (e.g., Ludiomil) or
- Theophylline (e.g., S omophyllin-T) or
- Trazodone (e.g., Desyrel) or
- Ritonavir (e.g., Norvir)—Using these medicines with Zyban may increase the risk of seizures

What Is It
Zyban was introduced in the USA in 1985 and was withdrawn in 1986 because of an unacceptable incidence of seizures. In 1989 it was reintroduced in the USA (maximum dose of 450 mg daily). Zyban was fir st approved in Canada in 1998 as an SR twice-daily formulation. In one RCT buproprion SR, 150 mg daily and 150 mg BID, were similar and more effective than placebo based on physician rated scores of d epression at 8 weeks.8 In 2 RCTs Zyban (150-400 mg/day) was similar in effectiveness to sertraline (50-200 mg/day) at 8 weeks, but the incidence of satisfaction with sexual functioning was less with s ertraline (63%) than buproprion (79%) and placebo (78%). 9, 10

Cautions
Your doctor should check your progress at regular visits, especially during the first few months of treatment with this medicine. The amount of Zyban you take may have to be changed often to meet the needs of your condition and to help avoid unwanted effects.

Do not take Zyban within 14 days of taking an MAO inhibitor.
